One of a variety of semi-automatic carbines designed and manufactured in Rhodesia (now a part of Zimbabwe) for use as self-defense weapons, the Kommando was manufactured during the Bush War Era as a "Land Defense Pistol" (a generic term for weapons of this type) for use by white African farmers.
To produce the weapon, the weapon was financed by a man named Hubert Ponter; as such, the final weapon would be known as the LDP, each initial representing something to do with the weapon (Lacoste, DuPlessis, Ponter). Production began in 1975, with exports beginning in 1976 to South Africa.
