Made of black polymer with an inner steel heat shield.
These have an open bottom to support the M203 grenade lauchner, and are for the carbine length rifles.
These were only in service for a short period of time and could be seen on the Colt XM177 rifle (reference picture included).
May show signs of wear, marring, grime, etc...
