Several versions are produced, the standard gun has a bipod and can be fitted onto a tripod, the M60E2 is a CO-AX mounted MG for tanks and armoured vehicles, the M60C is for remote firing on aircraft outboard weapon mounts and the M60D is pintle mounted for helicopters, attack boats and exterior mounted on armoured vehicles. Air-cooled, belt fed, gas operated automatic weapon firing from an open bolt with a cyclic rate of 550 RPM using standard 7.62 NATO M80 ball ammunition. It weighs approximately 23 lbs and has an effective range of 2250 yards (when on a pintle or tripod).
